The Scottish Gallery | Edinburgh

The Scottish Gallery, located in the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town, is the oldest commercial gallery in Scotland, having been founded in 1842 by Aitken Dott as a picture restoration and gilding business. Since the 1880s, it has been a pioneer in supporting and promoting women artists, as well as playing a central role in the development of Scottish contemporary art.

Over the years, the gallery has earned a reputation for its

long-standing commitment to craft and applied arts, showcasing a diverse range of work including sculpture, furniture, jewellery, metalwork, textiles, ceramics, glass, and mixed media; created by both Scottish and international artists. In addition to its exhibitions, The Scottish Gallery is known for its dynamic programme of events. Each month, it offers a variety of in-person and online activities that complement the works on display, providing further opportunities for engagement with the art and artists. This commitment to fostering a deeper connection between the public and the art world has helped the gallery remain an important cultural institution for nearly two centuries.

Whether showcasing traditional craftsmanship or cutting-edge contemporary art, The Scottish Gallery continues to be a key player in the Scottish and international art scenes, enriching the cultural landscape of Edinburgh and beyond.

Welcome to The Found Gallery, a creative space rooted in the coastal town of Dunbar, birthplace of the great naturalist John Muir. With its sweeping coastline, rich history, and famously sunny skies, Dunbar has long inspired makers and wanderers alike - and it’s this spirit of discovery that lies at the heart of what we do.

Founded in 2010 by Amy Christie and Simon Glover, The Found Gallery quickly became a much-loved part of the High Street, known for showcasing handmade work with character and care. In 2025, Hannah and Matthew took on the gallery, continuing its creative legacy with a shared background in fine art and creative retail.

Today, The Found Gallery specialises in contemporary arts and crafts, including original art, prints, ceramics, and jewellery by independent makers from across the British isles. Each piece is chosen for its craftsmanship, character and sense of story.
